Ask for a wall insulation estimate
I walk the walls with you and write out every step and why.
Request an estimateHow do you insulate walls in a house that's already built?
Wall insulation in San Clemente homes that are already built is usually done by drill and fill. It gets insulation into closed walls without tearing them out, so rooms hold their heat in winter and stay cooler in summer.
Most people call because a room never feels right. Maybe the wall by the bed is cold all winter, or the upstairs bakes every afternoon, or a remodel is coming and you want the walls done while you're at it. The price moves with how much wall we fill, which side we drill from and what an older house needs before any fill goes in. The schedule mostly turns on whether new siding is in your plans and whether anything has to be fixed first. We're based in San Clemente and work in cities across south Orange County, and the estimate I write lays out each step in the order we'd do it.
What our wall insulation job looks like, start to finish
Before anyone picks up a drill, I look at three things: how old the house is, what wiring runs through the walls and whether you're planning new siding. Those three decide which side of the wall we work from, so I check them at the estimate instead of on install day. Then our crew drills a small hole into each stud bay, which is the space between two wall studs, and blows insulation in until that space is full. When the fill is done we patch the holes and clean up the dust before we leave.
Walls are only part of how a house loses heat, because air also slips in around outlets, pipes and the gaps where the framing meets the floor. If drafts are your bigger complaint, our air sealing services close those gaps. If the cold comes up from below, basement insulation may do more for you than the walls will. I'll tell you which one I'd do first.
Wall insulation permits and houses in San Clemente
The City of San Clemente issues building permits here. Whether a wall fill on your house needs one is something I confirm with the city before we start, so I don't guess. When a job does call for a permit, we pull it as the licensed contractor and handle the inspections, so you aren't the one chasing appointments.
Plenty of the houses we work on here have stucco outside and drywall or older plaster inside. Each of those patches differently, so I look at both surfaces before deciding where the holes go. We see the same mix of older homes on jobs in Dana Point and San Juan Capistrano, and we run the same checks there.
Why call us for wall insulation
The owner writes your estimate
I come out myself to look at your walls and write the estimate, and our own crew does the work. You're dealing with the person who actually saw your house.
Running this business since 2020
I learned insulation on crews when I was young and started this business in San Clemente in 2020, six years ago. Time away from the trade showed me how often insulation gets piled in while the real problems get left alone, so I look for those first.
Licensed and insured, as the city advises
We're licensed and insured. The city encourages homeowners to hire a qualified, licensed contractor and strongly discourages acting as your own builder, because the owner then takes on the liability for bad work.
Every step written down
Each estimate lists what comes first and why, so you can see where the wiring and paint checks fit before any fill goes in. When you know what you're paying for, you can make the call yourself.

Frequently asked questions
How are existing walls insulated without tearing them open?
Existing walls are usually insulated by drill and fill. Small holes go in near the top of each stud bay, from inside or outside, and the space is filled with blown-in insulation, which is loose fill blown through a hose. Packing it dense keeps it from settling, fills the space completely and slows the air moving through the wall.
Is it better to insulate walls from the inside or the outside?
Neither side is right for every house, because it depends on access and on the shape of the house wrap behind your siding, which is the layer that keeps rain out of the wall. Drilling from outside cuts through that wrap, so it has to be patched or replaced. Drilling from inside leaves it alone, so I look at the wrap before choosing a side.
When is the best time to insulate walls if I'm getting new siding?
Re-siding is the best time to insulate from outside, because with the siding off, the house wrap can be checked and put back or replaced as needed. It also lets you add rigid foam boards on the outside of the wall, along with the fill or instead of it, so it's worth pricing both jobs together.
How do I insulate the walls of a house built before 1980?
In a house built before 1980, check for lead paint and find out what wiring is in the walls before you insulate. Federal building guidance says to be aware of lead safety rules when those walls are disturbed. The electrical code doesn't allow insulation on or around knob and tube wiring, the old wiring strung on porcelain knobs, so we sort that out before any fill goes in.
How much does blown-in wall insulation cost?
Installing blown-in wall insulation usually costs about $3.80 to $4.60 per square foot across the US. That's a national figure, not our price. Your own number depends on how much wall we fill, which side we drill from and what an older house needs first, and the estimate I write gives you that figure step by step.
How do I apply for a building permit in San Clemente?
You can apply for a building permit in San Clemente online through e-Trakit, in person at the Building Division or by email. If you have questions first, the city's Community Development Liaison at 949-361-6100 answers permitting questions and can help set up an in-person appointment. On our jobs, we take care of the permit when one is needed.
Other work that goes with your walls
Air sealing services
Drafts at outlets, baseboards and the attic hatch can undo new wall insulation, so sealing them is often the first job worth doing.
Basement insulation
If your floors feel cold or the room above the lower level never warms up, insulating the basement deals with the cold where it starts.
